What Are The Differences Between CBD and THC?

Published by Biobizz World Wide Organics at 01/03/2018

For the past few years, there is a serious increase in availability and understanding of CBD. There are a lot of stigmatised laws surrounding THC but studies have shown how our bodies naturally coexist with cannabinoids and terpenes.

Found Inside The Brain

Not long ago, scientists have discovered that the human brain works in harmony with a set of naturally wired cannabinoids. Where it becomes really interesting is to know that such cannabinoid receptors such as THC1, THC2, CBD1 and CBD2 are located firmly in the brain cortex, working together in a complex signal network. Until recently, scientists have gained more understanding about this network, what has now been called The Endocannabinoid system, and accompanied by more research, they identified at least 113 different cannabinoids. Understanding the link between these cannabinoids and the human body is a daily battle in science. However, as we progress in our understanding about the therapeutic advancements made with CBD and the non-psychoactive effects, the more we are learning about the medicinal properties.

What Exactly Is CBD And Is It Legal?

Derived from plant matter through the process of solvent or non-solvent extraction, Cannabidiol counts for up to 40% of the plant extract. When analysed, CBD shares no properties similar to THC and it can be used with only therapeutic benefits in mind. As a result, this makes CBD legal to buy and legal to take, with many countries such as Germany now prescribing CBD as a medicine through doctors’ prescriptions. In America, the current law on CBD is that if there is more than 0.3% THC present then this is classed as a drug. The production and sale of CBD in America are not permitted but the sale of CBD from Europe to America is fine.

What Is THC?

Tetrahydrocannabinol is the active cannabinoid found in Cannabis and hemp plants. THC can be found inside of trichomes along with at least 113 other cannabinoids. However, this is the one of the cannabinoid which can often be associated with great misinterpretation. THC is what is called psychoactive, which should not to be confused with psychedelics. THC is responsible for creativity, focused and energetic social boost, as well as being well documented for treating depression. Some doctors refer THC as the hunger drug as once it enters the bloodstream, it releases a chemical within the body to the brain known as Ghrelin. This chemical will then be released into an empty stomach until the stomach has become full, making this cannabinoid well associated with stimulated appetite. The legal status of the cannabinoid THC is currently illegal in most of Europe and the majority of American’s states have ban anything containing THC.

How Is CBD Taken?

CBD is now commercially available to take in many formats from mixed with olive oil (at specific ratios), paste, cosmetic pain cream, CBD capsules, CBD crystal, pet friendly CBD and even recently CBD water. There has been a lot of anticipation and misunderstanding on how cannabis oil can cure cancer cells in the body. Yet there is still much to understand regarding the possible treatments using the full spectrum cannabinoids. But cannabis oil proved to have miraculous results for many patients who were never subject to cannabis use prior to the treatments. Rick Simpson was a pioneer in the production of solvent plant extract and has his own testimonials page dedicated to his cures.

The Entourage Effect

Before you are quick to disparage THC based on its illegality, scientists have recently learnt about the entourage effect. This knowledge describes the relationship between terpenes & cannabinoids and how combining 2 or more cannabinoids together can produce stronger benefits as to when the cannabinoids are isolated. A recent research showed that CBD can reduce the psychoactive effects of tetrahydrocannabinol THC.

The use of CBD will work as anti-inflammatory, anticonvulsant and antioxidant properties, whilst THC will work on a cerebral level and supply Ghrelin. Our understanding of the cannabis and industrial hemp plant is expanding each day and with medical popularity and serious investment, CBD will soon be the forefront of the pharmaceutical industry with many large corporations already on board. In the next 5 years, we can expect a turning point in the discovery and medicinal application of all the other 113 cannabinoids.

You can learn more about the endocannabinoid system in your own time and discover how important cannabinoids and the human body work in harmony.
